Does Reggie Exemplify Black Love?

Essence Magazine has selected Reggie Bush to grace their cover of the love & relationships issue on february.  Of course sex sells, and from looking at this chocolate piece of work, who wouldnt want to pass him up on the magazine stand.  But just recently there has been alot of backlash about Reggie Bush being the perfect face of the cover of a “Black Love” issue.  With his girlfiend, Kim Kardasian being non-black it makes me wonder how he can be an example of “Black Love”?   It was his choice to not date a black woman, so it should not be fair out of all of the many successful black men for Reggie Bush to take the spotlight.  I feel that Bush doesn’t publicly show his love for his own race and black women at that so why should he be on the cover.  He looks good, but that’s about it.

What do You Think?

Avatar metaphoric to the African Diaspora

My english minor is about to kick in because after watching the movie “Avatar”.

I started to think about the Indigenous creatures that they “sky people” were calling them were of the African Diaspora.  Yes they looked Indian with the tribal paint, and yes they also looked African with the dreaded locks and braids, but when they spoke I heard an islander accent within their language. As for the creatures, they were very tall and strong and their intelligence against the human race was phenomenal.  Using mother nature to create different connections with the ancestory also reminded me of some type of spiritual reflection.

As for the plot, I felt as if it were the “White Man” trying to take the Indigenous people’s land just like the Europeans came into Africa, and America and ruined the rich history that we must continue to sufer from now.  The only thing I did like was that the “sky people” did want to come to an understanding, become one, and trusted on the land of Avatar.  What if that was replaced with the African History?

The “Player” off the Court

what a dawg.  Shaq and shaunie O’neal have been the latest buzz for cheating/divorce scandal.  If you haven’t already heard the gossip, he has allegedly been cheating on his wife with Wizard’s baller Gilbert Arena’s wife, Laura Govan.  There has been text and email messages of Shaq meeting up with this chick during away games and having sex in hotel rooms.

I am not suprised by this bit of gossip and I do believe that Shaq would pull some of this mess. Not because he’s a Que and “Dog” is in his blood, but because he is a Man.  No all dogs don’t go to heaven and he got caught up.  It’s pretty simple to me, Shaunie needs to go ahead and follow through with the divorce, take half of his inheritance and get out of his life.  (He moves like sloth on the court now anyways)

Hmmm…shaq and kobe are friends. Birds of a feather FLOCK together!

Video Phone (feat. Lady Gaga)

ok, so kudos to Lady Gaga for keeping up with the most powerful woman in the music industry herself, Beyonce.  I love the video! what about you?

I heart Wale.

Today was the release of the album “Attention Deficit’ by Wale and so I decided to go ahead and make that iTunes purchase to support the brotha.  He’s such a sweetheart, he was on twitter trying to reason with society, his fans, and haters why he’s always set up for failure…I know he probably didn’t look at my DM, but I told him to be positive that no matter what; you are producing music that is apart of your life, your passion, and drive and album rankings should not detere you from what you love.  So anyways, (groupie moment)

I really like two songs in particular from his album: Diary feat. Marsha Ambriousus, Shades feat. Chrisette Michelle:  He spits alot of true bars about black women and more importantly being a dark-skinned brotha growing up.  The songs to me intertwine together because they are problems that alot of my peers and myself have probably gone through at least once in our lifetime.

so if you would, just cop this CD and support good real music. I feel that hip-hop is coming back 🙂

Aliens Exist

…and I have spotted one, in Atlanta, Ga. He goes by the name of “Alien Mic” when it comes to music but you can call him Mike Jenkins.  The Oakland native is an up and coming producer and entrepeuner that has utilized his artist talent and musically inclined abilities to conquer the music business. Graduating from Morris Brown College with a degree in Business Management and Music Technology he developed his very own Indie Label called “Star Warz Entertainment”

During College, Jenkins professors and peers have called him different and out of this world.  His music that he produces attracts the ears of many different areas of music.  The music genre of his label come from different cultures and genre.  He uses the idea of being “different” to produce different collaborations that you may not here on your everyday radio station. He says, “My focus is to use music in such a way that it will conquer the social problems and celebrity divide of whats causing the destruction of real music today.”  Jenkins picks his artists that share the same focus as him collaborates the different subsadaries to produce musical sounds.  If you feel that your music, in unhumanely out of this world, then Star Warz Entertainment is the label that you should make history with.

Star Warz Entertainment is based out of Altanta, Ga. and have birthed many artists like B. Bonds, Jon Dreamer, Jamison, and more.  Not only can you google them, but you can also find them with hit singles on iTunes.  The label cover a wide varitey of sounds such as hip-hop, indie, pop, rock, and electrica.

“Fragile” by Chrisette Michelle Feat. Wale

so I have a crush on Wale and I think Chrisette is my homegirl, therefore this music video must be placed on here.  If you look closely most of her scenes are shot in the hair salon. I’m loving the funky hairstyles that go along with her theme and of course some are NATURAL, love it 🙂

oh yeah, she shouted me out on twitter for Follow Fridays; Now I just have to get her to follow me 🙂
