Okay so you can comb it, but never when it’s DRY! I’ve noticed that you get your most definition when your hair is wet, so after I give my mane a good washing I run my comb through with conditioner; Loreal Nature’s Therapy Mega Strength Fortifying Conditioner once a week and I don’t comb my hair as much afterwards. This may sound crazy but when you have an afro pik and some fingers there is no need to continuously comb through your hair every day. You will lose definition and get that scarey frizzy afro that we all try to avoid. Daily I spritz my hair with Elasta Care Moisturing Spray and dap on their Feels like Silk Gel to keep it soft and healthy. So my tip for you is lay off all that combing and brushing and let the curl do it’s own thing 😉

Who gives it to ya more?!

The other night while in the club I caught this woman staring at me, I thought maybe I had spinach in my teeth so I ran to the bathroom to check my face. She followed me in there and I almost freaked out until she opened her mouth and said, “I love your hair!” This whole time I thought she was mean mugging me but she politely told me that she liked how I rocked my hair. The compliment felt good but I wonder, would a brotha do all that to give a compliment? I want to know what you are thinking, take my poll and let’s see!
My Appreciation
This is my dedication and appreciation for all the sistahs out there with rebellious hair. Where ever I go no matter what state, what country, use the compliments uplift eachother. I don’t know if anyone understands me, but once you’ve experience the natural lifestyle it’s not like no other. No lacefront, remy weave, or bone straight lifestyle can’t take away the shine that magically seems to glow between each sending happiness that only the rebellious can understand. I have recently noticed the natural community and how on such a forbiden and touchy subject women of all textures come together through internet, on the streets, or work enviornments and uplift eachother when society only wants to bring us down. This is me appreciating those that give compliments, advice, or just slient gestures to those who choose to wear their hair how it has been naturally rooted from the scalp. Even if it’s just one day, one hour, or a couple months, just remember we are born natural and I will continue to live this natural life 🙂
More for your curl: Mizani True Textures
Mizani hair products have been used on my hair in salons in the south and I have been extremely happy with the results when my hair was chemically processed. Their new line “True Textures” are now for naturally curly hair styles. They have been advertised in Essence Magazine for Mizani’s Curl Community on www.essence.com I love their holding spray but the products that stood out to me were Mizani’s true textures Moisture Stretch Curling Cream and Perfect Curl Spray.

This cream is good for the tight curl pattern, It really doesnt build and lock in moisture so you don’t walk around with a dry fro.

I havent tried this but I’m curious to know how it is on looser curl textures. Everyone’s hair is different so try them out and tell me what you think!
2 Years and Counting. . .
My friends have been asking me to straighten my hair for awhile now, and since I am back home where humidity can’t effect my press and curl I decided to give it a try. Only problem is I couldnt get pass a blow dry. Just two years ago I cut my hair off around this time, BIRTHDAY WEEK! I think I’ve came a long way, it drapes my shoulders and this is not when its fully straight. I’ll post a picture later when I see my hair stylist so it can be professionally done 🙂
Afro Chic’s Testimony: Going Natural
It was not a choice…..at First.
I got my first REAL relaxer when I was in the 8th grade and it was maintained pretty well until I entered my first year of high school. I had to take a swimming class so my intentions were just to get cornrows for those few weeks than take it out and be back to my long hair don’t care! NOT! The chlorine had eaten away my hair and soon broke it off and it never looked the same again. I had to wear braids and twisties and natural styles just to nurse it back to some kind of health. It became healthier and managable my senior year and this is what it looked like. . .
(before Senior Pictures)
When I first came to Hampton University in 2006, I tried to do a press and curl/flat iron for a few weeks but that humidity was not gone fly. I came in rockin braids but when it was time to take it out I had to make a decision that changed my whole life. I got my first relaxer. I soon grew accustomed to the typical HU lifestyle and got weaves and completely forgot about getting touch ups or going to the hair salon frequently. By the end of my sophomore year I had fried and weaved up every little bit of the hair I had, so much that it became to fall out. It wasn’t until I gotten to my hairstylist back home who told me that I should cut it off. In order for it to be healthy again I need to cut off the remainding perm. I didn’t have a month to think about it, it was just GONE. There was only two inches of hair on my head and I burst into tears. I left the hair salon and made my bestfriend go with me to Eastmont mall and I bought the ghetto-ist wig in the world and put it on my head. LOL This is what I looked like after my big chop…
That summer before Junior year 2007 was the most liberating experience I had ever had. All those stories you hear about a woman chopping off their hair and starting over is SO TRUE. I had learned to love myself and the skin that I was in. I would like to thank, Karen from Class of Braids, for giving me so much advice on how to look beautiful with the hair that I was naturally born with. It took some time to getting used to; I definitely rocked braids that summer but when I came back for my junior year I never felt happier with my life. I had vowed to never treat my hair like that again and to also share my experiences and advice that I had learned that summer with my fellow sistas. After two years, two inches, and no creamy crack this is what I look like now 🙂
Chrisette Michele’s Big Chop

Yes, Chrisette Michele is natural once AGAIN!…This grammy award winning diva decided to go natural for the third time in her life and she share’s her story with www.curlynikki.com . Due to her healthy hair relationship in the past, her decision for the big chop was solely just try something new and fun, and I love it!
She say’s ” My natural hair is a promise to myself to be kinder to myself”
What inspired her to go natural was her mother. She admires her mother and how she chops her hair off all the time so it was only right to finally adapt the hair that was naturally given to us a birth. Chrisette could care less about what the “Industry” feels about her hair and knows that with creativity she will still continue to rock the charts.
If you would like to see her exclusive footage of the big chop check out her website www.thisischrisettemichele.com
Afro Chic’s Hairstyle: Flat Twisted UpDo
I wanted to share with you my hairstyle that I have created and suprisingly mastered for my Senior Ball last night. It’s a popular style called the two-strand flat twisted updo. I washed my hair then blowed it dry just a little. I used ultra sheen to moisturize my hair and the gel’s I used were Jam extra hold and Jamaican mango and lime. I think it worked out pretty good 🙂
Kinky Curly’s Midnight Miracle
For all my curly sistas, kinky curly is back on the market with a new product. Kinky Curly’s “Midnight Miracle” is an overnight treatment that is said to revamp and and pentrate your hair shaft for magical results the next day. It’s a 4 oz. bottle that is produced in a foam with ingredients castor bean extract, meodowfoam and silk protein. I never placed a foam conditioner on my hair but it should be worth a try. I’m not sure what kind of miracle a small bottle for $22 makes but I trust kinky curly’s products so it will do it’s job. (results coming soon)
For my chics in Transition. . .
Lately I’ve noticed some young ladies having a hard time with their hair. I get comments like “I dont wanna get a perm” but then they try to rock a style with their own hair even though they know their hair can’t possibly do all of that. My theory is there is NO need to fry your hair to shreds (especially if your hair is not healthy enough) just to achieve a hairstyle that can be instantly done in minutes. And you wonder how can that be? WIGS! Don’t shy away from this subject because you will soon find out how left out you are and how man women walk around today with wigs on their head; including stars like Beyonce. So if you find yourself in a rutt don’t resort to the creamy crack just yet, a nice hair piece or wig can bring you back from the grave and hide your transitional hair until you learn to manage it.
I have puchased two wigs by Equal brandname….
The curly
and the Straight. (no personal pic yet)

Some days you just have to let your own hair rest…so instead of everyone seeing your bad hair day, just pop on your instant fab!
