New Trend: Black Women Dating outside their Race

Posted Image

This past weekend I’ve caught myself smiling at a couple on Grandby St. walking hand-in-hand. Not because they looked trendy in their tailored peacoats but more so because they were an interracial couple openly walking on a saturday night.  The black women looked very proud as she held her head high and passed me with her white man grinning from ear-to-ear next to her.  I couldn’t help but to smile back because I was happy that she was happy.

But the question arises, why is that more black women are starting to date white men? Is it because there are a lack of black men available? Maybe they just don’t want us?  My excuse to moving forth outside of our race and culture is because black men have seem to given up on us. We can sit around moping and complaining about black men not doing right but if they aren’t then move on to someone who would. (obviously homegirl caught the trend)  I’m pretty sure there are plenty of men outside your own race who are willing to give, provide, and recieve the love and companianship that a black man may not do at this point in time. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t knock the brothas, but there has been a difference of reasons as to why black women date outside their race.  Black men use “Angry Black Women” as an excuse and so if your own kind doesn’t approve, use the excuse of  their disaproval to move on.

My Testimony

I’m listening.

Listening to the sounds of my body

No longer muting what I believe is discouraging

But letting God tell me what I need.

As I spread my wings to the golden sun

No more tears, blood, pain, or silence.

I will shout to the world,

“I am me, and this is who I’ve become.”

Scars will become beauty marks

Inspiration of where I’ve been and

What it took to be me.

You will now understand that my perfect skin comes from within.

From my hair follicles down to my toes

He lifts me up above the highest mountain top

With the wind as my melody

I will listen, shout, and tell the world.

I’m listening.

Time won’t run out like the sand of an hour glass

My body will no longer go silent

and my journey will unveil.

Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This past monday, January 18th, 2010, was not just any old day off that was granted by my school but more of a reflection of new beginnings.  Many students, communities, and countries around the world celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  I had the opportunity to walk with my fellow classmates at Hampton University as we marched from our landmark, the Emancipation Oak to Ogden Hall for a ceremony.

The ceremony was put together by the Office of Student Activities, where the Pan-Hellenic Council sponsored the event.  Through prayer, musical selections, poems, and speeches we were all able to embrace such a beautiful moment.  Here I have captured some footage and compiled it into a contempary video so that you can share and remember the experiences of Martin Luther King Day 🙂

The Red Lip.

I found this old picture I took of myself in my bathroom when I was scared to actually leave this house with lipstick on, but now its time to put my shiny lip gloss to rest and add some color to my lips.  I have recently purchased a MAC lipcolor called “Morracan”. It doesn’t look like this throwback pic above  but below its surely represents me well. I feel that as I grow into a woman I learn new things that I can do with my beauty that God has given me.

“Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. Or a thick-ass red lipstick”

Wyclef Jean Defends Yele

Wyclef Jean did solicit his organization immediately after the earthquake on January 12, 2010 but the donations were not used for his personal benefit.  I could say more, but his press conference says more. Watch!

Erk Tha Jerk “Right Here”

I always support my bay area music, and when I came back for the break I fell in love with this song.  I must add the camera angles and light/dark contrast help to sex appeal and show the bay from a different eye!

Think of the many lives you are going to save and the many families that will be thanking you for your kindness.

There has been many scams about Haiti Relief Foundations but to find your legitimate sources check out CNN at http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/impact/

Jill Scott is back!

I have never been so excited to find out that Jill Scott is working on her new album this year entitled, “Light of Sun“.  The release is expected to be spring/summer of this year and will be packed with more vocals and emotions that many women can once again use for empowerment. Scott has described this album as a personal turn; flurry of emotional poetry both about her career, love, success, and the birth of her first child.

If that’s not enough news for you, she will be on tour with Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige and Sarah McLachlan, where Jill Scott will be the headliner of the 2010 Lilith Fair Tour! Look out for those tour dates at a city near you!  I’m so excited for Music in 2010!
