T-Ran x Outside The Box: Still Dreaming (Mixtape)

I usually test out my new music while I’m working out in the gym since it always the most downtime for me and my thought process seems to work the most. T-Ran released his latest project Outside The Box: Still Dreaming this past weekend and I could tell that determination, thought, and true emotion went into this project. For those of you who aren’t familiar with T-Ran as an artist he is an Oakland Bred rapper currently residing in Washington, D.C. where he is actively pursuing his career in music. He has recently opened for Big Sean at the New Parish in Oakland and set a high standard for upcoming artists that followed him. I have also had a chance to interview him in a previous post that you can check out here.  His drive and determination is what makes him stand out as an artist and I have become an instant fan upon meeting him.

I love how Outside The Box: Still Dreaming tells real-life stories, it’s like I’m taking a trip through his thoughts. “Heart & Soul”, “Ohh Baby” and “I Need You” seems to appeal to his female audience but it picks back up with his dreams and aspirations as an artist with “Still Dreaming” and “By Any Means”.

T-Ran describes his inspiration behind this mixtape in his own words as, “chasing my dreams really asking myself is it worth it…meaning music. I was in a place of feeling like I was doing this all in vain because of how much I was puting in and not feeling like I was getting through. I was feeling like I was fighting a battle that was set up for me to lose.  I’ve been rapping since I was 7, and as I continued to get better I was just feeling like I could lose my dream at anytime. But through it all I know that music is the only thing I could see me doing and thats where the “Still Dreaming” aspect came from. From me loving hip hop so much I could never give up on dream no matter what.”

So there you have it, regardless of your own circumstances we all have a dream and T-Ran truly shares his dream through this project. Take a listen.

Les Nubians x AfroDance (Video)

Here is the visual for “AfroDance” by Les Nubians.  I happen to love this and although I expected a little more creativity the models are stunning in this video. What do you guys think?

Easter Dean x Take You To Rio

Check out the latest track from Easter Dean, “Take You To Rio”, which is on the soundtrack for the animated film Rio starring Jamie Foxx as one of the characters.  I think this song is tropical and care-free so it was only right to bring it to your ears on a Tuesday.  Not to mention, I’m going to go see Rio when it comes out cause I LOVE animated films with black actors.  Enjoy!

Sade feat. Jay Z x Moon and the Sky (Remix)

Jay Z kicked off the weekend a new website and remix to Moon and the Sky by Sade.  I’m sure everyone finds this collaboration interesting but I am far from shocked that the lovely Sade would do a project with Jay Z.  Two different genres of music collaborating is quite the trend these days.  I don’t know about you but I have to be in a “Sade” mood to really get into this, so I may revisit it later this week while I’m in deep meditation or something.  In the mean time, what do you guys think?

p.s. Her album “The Ultimate Collection” is set to drop May 3rd and she’s touring this summer. wooohooo!

Les Nubians x Afrodance

whaaaaaat!? I love Les Nubians. Check out their latest song that has been released called “Afrodance” and it’s pretty much the appreciation and fabulousity of the Afro.  It makes me want to fluff out my hair and rock mines tomorrow…hmmmm. What do you guys think?

Frank Ocean x Nostalgia, Ultra. (Mixtape)

If you haven’t already, you MUST download Frank Ocean’s debut album “Nostalgia, Ultra” which was released as a mixtape earlier this month on Tumblr.  After being ignored after a year signing with Island Def Jam, who would’ve known that this 23 year old, New Orleans born singer would make a name for himself on his own.  Nostalgia, Ultra live up to it’s name by bring the R&B beats and promising lyrics. I’ve been letting the sounds of Frank Ocean rock me to sleep for the past week. Get into it. He’s dope.

Sha Stimlu x Wake Up & Go (video)

Sha Stimlu shares a song and visual dedicated to his affirmation for black woman.  I like how he admits that he loves his women just the way they are.  We really do try so hard to cover up whats real inside. It’s part of being a women, it’s unjustifiable obstacles that we will always go through. However, I’m glad he is reaching out representing brothas out there that aren’t caught up in our own insecurities of our beauty. This kind of music that appreciates women and sends uplifting messages is what I really like. Now if only we could really just wake and go. lol

In his own words:
1st video leak from “The Break-Up Part 2: The Proposal” dropping soon. This joint features dancer Miss Ksyn, directed by RH Bless & treatment by Dj Victorious. shout to Carter Brock for booking models and locations. Singer Okema Moore is also featured and thank u Chris Rock for authorizing Good Hair footage.
I’m not dissing weaves or wigs, I’m just afraid the next generation may be affected by plastic surgery and falsities. Speak to the kids.

Les Nubians x Veuillez Veiller sur vos Reves

So, Veuillez Veiler Sur vos Reves or in other words “Keep Your Dream” is the latest release from Les Nubians. I like the visual for this song, cool vibe.

I.V.A.N x Never Marry A Musician

A lot of artists dropped new music on Valentine’s Day and I thought it was only right to give this Bay Area bred emecee some spotlight. I.V.A.N released Never Marry A Musician and the buzz has been well received.  In this album you will find artistry that goes above the typical hip hop trend.  I.V.A.N has selections on here that display his creativity and his ability to naturally stand out.  One of the tracks that I liked was “Monterey” where he tells a story about the day in his life, his goals, feelings, and aspirations. If you never been to Monterey it really is a beautiful city to visit along the California coastline and I could totally visualize his reflection behind it.  Never Marry A Musician is a great compilation if you want to stimulate your creative senses.  Take a listen, download, and support good music!

Theophilus London x Flying Overseas

And finally this visual for “Flying Overseas”.  I absolutely love this video not only do I think this is a great song and he’s a dope up and coming artist, but his leading lady is dark skinned and GORGEOUS….not to mention I want her outfits for spring.   (I thought I’d give dark skinned natural women praise for a moment)  “Flying Overseas” features Devonte Hynes and Solange Knowles on the hook and is his second single off Green Label Sound.  The setting is familiar because it was shot on the beach of Malibu.  Thomas and his director give their explanation of the creation of the video saying,

“I wanted the video to be less concept-y and very minimal,” said London. “A very personal and emotional visual piece.” The outcome is full of psychedelic elements. “The technique for creating the datamosh effects was different from anything our crew had done before,” said director Tim Nackashi. “We filmed Theophilus’ face and fed that into the computer as data. It was a great experiment. Theophilus is a true artist.”
