I wanted to share with you my hairstyle that I have created and suprisingly mastered for my Senior Ball last night. It’s a popular style called the two-strand flat twisted updo. I washed my hair then blowed it dry just a little. I used ultra sheen to moisturize my hair and the gel’s I used were Jam extra hold and Jamaican mango and lime. I think it worked out pretty good 🙂
So You Want a Confederate Month?
This past week Gov. Robert F. McDonnell’s of Virginia recieved alot of backlash for declearing April “Confederate History Month” reluctantly leaving out the Slavery aspact of the Confederates. Although he did publicly apologize I feel that it shouldn’t be given a month anyhow. Yes, the confederates brought up the south and its about it’s culture but a very important part of history was the Civil War and the confederates were fighting to KEEP slavery. That should not be celebrated at all and it sickens me but doesn’t suprise me that the first slave state (virginia) would want to propose such recognition. But to leave out Slavery was a big mistake on McDonnell’s part. Without slavery this nation would not be where it is now, without African’s America would not be where it is now. So if you want to declare a day? How about an appreciation for African Americans that build this nation, thanks.
HU Spring Fling ReCap
Last week was Hampton University’s Spring Fest which is a week designed to bring comical relief, entertainment, and fun to the students on campus. Laser Tag, Food, Great Weather, and step shows, were amongst the many reasons for not going to class that week. LoL To highlight some of the events; HU put on their first Foam party which was a great success. The comedy show featured comedian Gary Owens who had the audience rollin with the “Are you a nursing major” joke. Also the concert was rockin with performances by Tierra Marie, Ryan Leslie, and J. Cole. Suprisingly, many students showed love for the RocNation artist J.Cole and it was reciprocated. Below is a small snippet of what you have missed and some words from our stars. Elise’s backstage access and I worked as a team to capture moments of what was one of the funnest Spring Fest’s of HU! (please excuse thier language lol)
A Trip to the Newseum. . .
Kinky Curly’s Midnight Miracle
For all my curly sistas, kinky curly is back on the market with a new product. Kinky Curly’s “Midnight Miracle” is an overnight treatment that is said to revamp and and pentrate your hair shaft for magical results the next day. It’s a 4 oz. bottle that is produced in a foam with ingredients castor bean extract, meodowfoam and silk protein. I never placed a foam conditioner on my hair but it should be worth a try. I’m not sure what kind of miracle a small bottle for $22 makes but I trust kinky curly’s products so it will do it’s job. (results coming soon)
Music Monday: Official Video Kelis “Acapella”
Back like she never left check out Kelis’ video “Acapella”. It was a very vibrant and tribal feel to it but still represents her style to the fullest. Peep the tail!
What is GroupThink?
Erykah Badu aired her music video for “Window Seat” which stirred up alot of thinking processes for many this weekend. Over twitter @fatbellybella she told us that she had less than an hour to do the video and when she got butt naked she had to run like hell afterwards. I thought this video sent out a perfect message about “Group Think”; defined as not individual, narrow minded, and pretty much how are society operates today. She went against the grain and was sending out a message in the most simplest way possible. If you look beyond her naked stroll of downtown Dallas you too will understand the message, but then again maybe you wont. Enjoy!
p.s. What is your opinion/critique on the music video? Please share.
Kelis Comes Back “Acapella”

yeah, I can’t wait. I have always been a Kelis fan wayyyyyyyyy before “My Milkshake”. I used to rock out in 8th grade to “Young Fresh and New” jumping up and down on my bed. She has been on a baby/divorce hiatus for quite some time but she’s here to take back he eclectic spotlight. Artists like Lady Gaga, Rhianna, and even Nicki Minaj are have some type of resemblence that Kelis has created in the music industry.
Her new album “Flesh Tone” is schedruled to drop this summer with her hot single “Acapella” which will be releasing a video in a few days so be sure to check back for that. Her comeback single is on the techno side, but I feel her creativity and I realize that she is trying to bring back her statement she made. What do you think?
Afro Chic’s Pick of the Week: ReKaste

There has been alot of buzz on Hampton University’s campus this year, and the group ReKaste has a lot to blame for it. Performing at Hampton Idol and the Haiti Relief Benefit concert, I had the opportunity to hear with my own ears. The group members; Allen “StevieVisionz” Hargrove, Kyle “D.J. Kal” Lawrence, Leavil “Recipe” Armstrong, are music techonology majors hailing from New York City. They were able to collaborate and produce eccentuating vibes right on the campus of HU.
Along with “Throw it Up”, Rekaste’s single entitled “Something Special” which is my pick, is a very smooth cross from alternative and hip hop, with lyrics that have your mind, body, and soul at ease. It happens to be on my “feel good” playlist cause it’s fitting for the mood. Check it out here!
Rekaste has been making moves in the community as well. They will be at Blurr in Newport News, Va. March 31, 2010 performing with other artists. Be sure to get your tickets for this event go to their website www.rekaste.com where you can find more information on how to follow them on twitter and access to their latest music releases.
