I can be your “FREAK”

I can’t wait for the premiere of Estelle’s video to her single “Freak, which airs tomorrow on her website www.estellemusic.com  I cam across the making of the video, and its HOT!  The whole idea of bringing out your inner freak to this techno pop, dance feel can really make a girl feel herself.  I knew I could here Estelle’s songs as a club banger.

Reel Talent: Nikyatu Jusu

Georgia native, Nikyatu S. Jusu is an aspiring filmmaker that I discovered as I scimmed my Crisis magazine. Nikyatu operates in Brooklyn, N.Y. where she produces her shortfilms “African Booty Scratcher”, “Youthenasia”,  and  “Say Grace Before Drowning” which is her current project that has been shot already in Georgia.  Nikyatu attended Duke University to study Engineering but than found a passion for the film and arts.  Upon graduation she won the Most Promising Filmmaking Award and continued her studies at NYU in the prestigous film program.

Nikyatu Jusu is known for her shortfilm that priemered at the Pan African Film Festival in 2007 entitled “African Booty Scratcher”. The film discussed coming of age, West African Traditions, and American Idealism. Check out the Video link below for yourself!

African Booty Scratcher-Short Film by Nikyatu Jusu from Nikyatu Jusu on Vimeo.

Ever since I got my filmmaking 101 class last semester, I have found a passion for film.  I currently have two short films that I co-produced under my belt and I hope to one day expand my collection just like Nikyatu.

My Sweetie- Wale

There was a lot of negativity towards the premiere of his “Pretty Girls” video last nite on twitter. I love Wale, I think he show great diversity towards music but that video was lame.  LOL check out this new release he put out called “My Sweetie” I love this song and the video is more interactive like it should be. oh yeah, Shout Out to the Nigerians!

The Hippest Trip in America

Peace Love and Soooooooooooooooul.

VH1 is airing a special called “Soul Train: The Hippest Trip in America” this friday February 5th in honor of Black History Month.

"Ball of Light." PPR_Scribe

I read an earlier review on variety.com that gave positive feedback that this special would be a hit.  Make sure that you tune into this 90 minute segment to see interviews and old school flasbacks of the most watched and known party tv show “Soul Train”.  I’m not even gonna front like I didn’t catch the late night re-runs, jumped up on my bed and started to break dance in the sheets. Gosh, I remember the days…Do You?

Happy Black History Month

The month of february is great after all. With love in the air for Valentine’s Day we must remember our black history in America.  Although the celebration should be a year-a-round holiday, black people now have an opportunity to exploit our rich history that has grown and molded African Americans on television, newspapers, media, t-shirts, classrooms…. ALL MONTH.  I am going to do my part in sharing a few facts, wisdom, and insight that I too have learned during this month of postings. So sit back and join the rollercoast of Black History Looooooooooveeeeeeeeeeee.

Music Monday presents….Vivian Green

I’ve always loved Vivian Green’s voice so it was more than right to shoutout her out this monday for her new song entitled “Beautiful”.  For all you Neo-Soul loves this year is truly going to be in our favor. Enjoy

Jill Scott is back!

I have never been so excited to find out that Jill Scott is working on her new album this year entitled, “Light of Sun“.  The release is expected to be spring/summer of this year and will be packed with more vocals and emotions that many women can once again use for empowerment. Scott has described this album as a personal turn; flurry of emotional poetry both about her career, love, success, and the birth of her first child.

If that’s not enough news for you, she will be on tour with Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige and Sarah McLachlan, where Jill Scott will be the headliner of the 2010 Lilith Fair Tour! Look out for those tour dates at a city near you!  I’m so excited for Music in 2010!
