“This Time” Short Film dedicated to Lives Protecting Our Country

Check out this short film entitled “This Time” which was written by Reagan Gomez-Preston and directed by Matthew A. Cherry starring Reagan Gomez, Michael Moss, Terri J. Vaugn, and Sinorice Moss.  This film tells a story of a recently returned Iraqi war veteran, Kevin (Michael Moss) that finds out the love of his life, Cheyenne (Reagan Gomez) is getting married.  He confronts her about the situation and forces her to make a life changing decision.  Please watch and find to find out the answer!

“This film is dedicated to the men and women who have given their lives to protect our country. And their family members with whom their memory lives on.”

The writer, producers, and actors did a great job at capturing the emotion in relationships, trials, and tribulations of the family and loved ones who fight for our country.  I cannot fathom how it must feel to have the love of your life oversees when at any moment he or she can lose their life and never to return.  By covering the issues of neglect, love, and loss I was able to feel passion in my heart for these type of situations.  After viewing this film tell me what you think? And for all those affected by a fallen soldier near and far this is dedicated to you.

ZahZarah- Cry Over You feat. Phonte (video)

I’m a sucka for VH1 Soul and I saw her on there with “Why Dontcha Call Me No More” a few months ago and couldn’t help but follow her progress.  ZahZarah stepped out into the scene  as Erykah Badu’s backup singer in 2000 where she then signed to Keo Music Records and released her debut album “Here Me” in 2001 and her second one “Blackstar” in 2003. I’ll just press fast forward and say that ever since joining The Foreign Exchange music she has been rockin’. ZahZarah finally released her visual for “Cry Over You” with a feature from Phonte of Little Brother/The Foreign Exchange…and I absolutely love it!  The song sounds happy and the video matches it with a girls day out of shopping, cruising the streets, and just feeling free again.  I like it because she says “It feels like I’m right back where I started again” and in the video you can tell her start is not laying in bed crying and depressed over a man. LOL

Oh and shout out to the Dark Skinned Sistahs doing their thang! I see YOU!

Les Nubians- Liberté

I woke up this morning feeling like death but after downloading Les Nubians new single “Liberte” I am no longer complaining and feel more “liberated” then yesterday. Just a little background; “liberte” was the names of the national anthem of Guinea which means “Liberty”. Les Nubians are currently on tour where they stopped in my area, Oakland Ca. at Yoshi’s. Although it wasn’t 1998 for me, I remember their introduction into the world with their hit single “Makeda” which was a big eye opener for the US after other African artists like Fela who paved the way for the exposure of African Music worldwide. You can check out their website http://www.lesnubians.com for the exclusive downloads, tour dates, and more!

Suai’s Version of Kanye West “Power”

I thought this was a dope cover of Kanye West’s “Power” done by aspiring artist Suai. By using piano and softer techniques she was able to switch up the meaning a little bit. I thought it was unique, but what do you think of the cover?

Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls” Trailer

I’ve seen the play production a few times and now Tyler Perry has created the movie “For Colored Girls” which is to be in theaters November 5th. Just in the trailer itself I spotted some of the top black actors like Loretta Devine, Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg, Richard Lawson, and Hill Harper. “For Colored Girls” is based on Ntozake Shange’s award winning play in 1975. The characters deal with issues of love, abandonment, rape, and abortion that is so prevalent with women in the black community. I don’t think Madea will be adding satire to this one so I’m sure it will bring seriousness to your soul. A lot of people love to hate on Tyler Perry these days, but he does send out positive messages and realistic stories to the film industry. I will definitely go see it!

Brandy x Lifeguard

New music from Brandy is always exciting. While currently working on her album, “Lifeguard” was released and I absolutely love it.  I think the lifeguard concept is good to explain a certain relationship that we are all so familiar with.  Take a listen!

FASHIZBLACK Sept/Oct Issue: Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles graces the cover of FASHIZBLACK September/October issue this year and she is rockin’ that faux fro like no other.  This magazine is pretty dope, after viewing the layout online, I am pleased with the features on Africa Fashion Week. It’s not so often you get a spread on Cape Town or Dakar. Nonetheless, Solange seems to embrace her afrocentric side well so I approve.

New Video: R.O.D “I Can’t Stand You” ft. Freeway

the summer in the bay has been blazin’ with the new artist R.O.D and his hit single “I Can’t Stand You”. Now with a video, it will probably be on FIRE this fall. Check it out and tell me what you think?

p.s. the video has been added as a “New Joint” on 106 & Park Live! Support aspiring artists and vote it to be on the countdown!

Willow Smith x Whip My Hair

I was not going to entertain this song, but “I Whip My Hair” is kinda thumpin’ my speakers right now.  Willow sounds like she’s 20 and I’m sure there is plenty of auto-tune but it’s still cute. If only I was in my pre-teens this could be my anthem.  Like it?

“I whip my back and forth!”
