Summer Vacation- Lydia Caesar

As much as I love underground music, I feel like this R&B songstress is making a staple in her career. Lydia Caesar newest single “Summer Vacation” was produced months ago but I felt that it’s melodies are perfect for this new chapter. This New York City native sings lyrics of summer love and the carefree enviornment we all long for. Who know’s what the summer is going to bring us! But it’s so reflective, take a listen!

Afro Chic’s: #MusicMonday

Just a few of the videos that I liked that have recently been released. Enjoy!

Of course, Toni Braxton is doing her thing to “Hand’s Tied”  she is definitely working it being the sexy cougar that she is. Not to mention the handsome men accompanying her.

Janelle Mone is rocking her signature look, just a tad bit much in my opinion but I love her hair and her album “The ArchAndroid” is interesting, she talented so support it.

Spree Wilson with his single “How Long”…it’s something about a guitarist that I really really love. his voice sounds different which is a plus.

Chrisette Michele’s Big Chop

Yes, Chrisette Michele is natural once AGAIN!…This grammy award winning diva decided to go natural for the third time in her life and she share’s her story with www.curlynikki.com .  Due to her healthy hair relationship in the past, her decision for the big chop was solely just try something new and fun, and I love it!

She say’s ” My natural hair is a promise to myself to be kinder to myself”

What inspired her to go natural was her mother.  She admires her mother and how she chops her hair off all the time so it was only right to finally adapt the hair that was naturally given to us a birth.  Chrisette could care less about what the “Industry” feels about her hair and knows that with creativity she will still continue to rock the charts.

If you would like to see her exclusive footage of the big chop check out her website www.thisischrisettemichele.com

#MusicMonday Macy Gray

I’ve always been a fan of the rather interesting and different vocalist Macy Gray.  She’s back with a new single from her studio album entitled “The Sellout”.  Her video “Beauty In the World” reminds me of the spring time. I think it’s funny she’s standing in front of the watts towers with this multi-cultural cheerleading team. I would say I’m confused but it’s Macy Gray and I love her so check the video out. LoL

HU Spring Fling ReCap

Last week was Hampton University’s Spring Fest which is a week designed to bring comical relief, entertainment, and fun to the students on campus.  Laser Tag, Food, Great Weather, and step shows, were amongst the many reasons for not going to class that week. LoL To highlight some of the events; HU put on their first Foam party which was a great success.  The comedy show featured comedian Gary Owens who had the audience rollin with the “Are you a nursing major” joke.  Also the concert was rockin with performances by Tierra Marie, Ryan Leslie, and J. Cole.  Suprisingly, many students showed love for the RocNation artist J.Cole and it was reciprocated.  Below is a small snippet of what you have missed and some words from our stars.  Elise’s backstage access and I worked as a team to capture moments of what was one of the funnest Spring Fest’s of HU! (please excuse thier language lol)

Music Monday: Official Video Kelis “Acapella”

Back like she never left check out Kelis’ video “Acapella”.  It was a very vibrant and tribal feel to it but still represents her style to the fullest. Peep the tail!

Kelis Comes Back “Acapella”

yeah, I can’t wait.  I have always been a Kelis fan wayyyyyyyyy before “My Milkshake”.  I used to rock out in 8th grade to “Young Fresh and New” jumping up and down on my bed.  She has been on a baby/divorce hiatus for quite some time but she’s here to take back he eclectic spotlight.  Artists like Lady Gaga, Rhianna, and even Nicki Minaj are have some type of resemblence that Kelis has created in the music industry.

Her new album “Flesh Tone” is schedruled to drop this summer with her hot single “Acapella” which will be releasing a video in a few days so be sure to check back for that.  Her comeback single is on the techno side, but I feel her creativity and I realize that she is trying to bring back her statement she made.  What do you think?

Afro Chic’s Pick of the Week: ReKaste

ReKaSte

There has been alot of buzz on Hampton University’s campus this year, and the group ReKaste has a lot to blame for it.   Performing at Hampton Idol and the Haiti Relief Benefit concert, I had the opportunity to hear with my own ears.  The group members; Allen “StevieVisionz” Hargrove, Kyle “D.J. Kal” Lawrence, Leavil “Recipe” Armstrong, are music techonology majors hailing from New York City.  They were able to collaborate and produce eccentuating vibes right on the campus of HU.

Along with “Throw it Up”, Rekaste’s single entitled “Something Special” which is my pick, is a very smooth cross from alternative and hip hop, with lyrics that have your mind, body, and soul at ease.  It happens to be on my “feel good” playlist cause it’s fitting for the mood.  Check it out here!

Rekaste has been making moves in the community as well. They will be at Blurr in Newport News, Va. March 31, 2010 performing with other artists. Be sure to get your tickets for this event go to their website www.rekaste.com where you can find more information on how to follow them on twitter and access to their latest music releases.

Beautiful Girls

Spring is here and this song reminds me of all the beautiful people that come out when it get’s warm.  It’s B.O.B- Nothing on You ft. Bruno Mars…..

Finding Dakota Grey…

The voice behind Kanye West, Tony Williams debutes his first mixtape entitled “Finding Dakota Grey”.  You know that voice you heared on 808 and Heartbreaks, well Tony adds his R&B twist to Kanye’s songs.  I never knew too much about him, till my girl bella (erin) put me onto his mixtape last night and I had to share it with yall.

Finding Dakota Grey reminds me of an alternative R&B/ Hip Hop mix with different rythmic sounds that will keep your head nodding and singing along because of course he would put his remix to “Nightmares” in there.

Tony Williams says it himself on his own blog:

The mixtape is done and  all I can say is “Holy smokes and Gee Wiz!!”  It was hard work, but it was worth it!  Now without furthur adieu, it is my pleasure to introduce to you my first mainstream project:  The World Famous Tony Williams:  FINDING DAKOTA GREY.  It is also my pleasure to introduce the very subject of the project, Dakota Grey.  I found her and now it’s time that you did.  I must warn you though, if you ain’t been waiting for a project that offers that sexy, edgy, silky, “funky like ya like stuff “, then I wouldn’t touch this one with a touchin’ machine.  The mixtape is mixed by Kanye West’s  d.j.  DJ Aktive and offers features from a parade of friends that guarantees something for everyone.

So pretty much I love this mixtape already and can’t wait for his project to grow! so the Afro Chic says Cop it!
