This lovely lady, Nailah Ricco, was featured a year ago for her Happy People Products and since then she has evolved as a jewelry designer and to feed her creative spirit she’s created a line called the J&Flo Jewelry Company. Named after her aunt and best friend/cousin whom have traveled around the world, J&Flo represents their international fashion flair. This New York native and New Orleans resident recently introduced a fall collection that is heavily infused with African inspiration and creations from the Philippines.
Here are a few of my favorite fall picks in the J&Flo collection:
”I spend a lot of time studying past trade systems of the continent and expressions of cultural fashion and then identify suppliers to help me create my vision in a contemporary way. “
“I like the technique because I support other small businesses (suppliers) in their own handmade creations (found shells, found glass, bead creation, etc) and then take it to another level with my own talents.”
“I am also thoroughly moved by the meticulous bead creation coming out of the Philippines and the brass work coming out of Nepal. I get a lot of materials and inspiration from those places. “
You can check out more of J&Flo here. If you are local to New Orleans, make sure you follower her on Twitter for updates on her trunk shows in October
I wanted to show you guys my funky look from this past weekend. It was inspired by Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk and Deana’s Earrings and Things . I am always look for earrings to add to my creative collection and I came across her line randomly. They are handmade crochet yarn earrings and she makes them in all colors of the rainbow. Since red is a popular color to my wardrobe you know I had to cop these.
My Hair? I have been trying to craft the ultimate fro for quite some times so I tend to try new products and spend hours on youtube teaching myself ways to care for my natural hair. I am no expert, but when people ask me how do I get it this way, I do not hold back on advice. I used Carol’s Daughter Curl Definer with Murray’s loc gel to do a two strand twist. (disclaimer: I am not TOO fond of Carol’s Daughter Products!!!) I kept the twist in for three days, due to my strenuous work out schedule but when I took them out for the weekend I like the results but it’s not ALL THAT. However, my hair was soft and didn’t feel too cakey or dry at all. Here are more pictures. Do share your feedback =)
With Spring right around the corner, I can’t help but think about all the bright fashion statements I will be making this year. I’d like to keep my Earring game tight so it’s about that time I start adding to my collection. These are just a few of my favorite earrings that are out on the lovely spring line of Rachel Stewart, Peace Images, and the J and Flo Jewelry and Company. I’ve featured them before so just click the picture below for more details on my favorite jewelry artists
“Everybody Loves The Sunshine” by Rachel Stewart
“Acid Jazz” by Peace Images
“Nana” by J & Flo Jewelry Company
I spotted Rachel Stewart in a Sponsor at the ”black girl with long hair” website. www.bglhonline.com and I immediately fell in love with her earrings. Rachel Stewart is an artist, music collector and a fashionista on a budget. Speaking of budget her jewelry are FREE SHIPPING.
